UK Concert Profits: Lewis Capaldi’s 2019 Arena Tour Predicted To Rake In Just 3% What The Spice World UK Tour Made From Ticket Sales

There is an abundance of amazing concerts this year; bands are reuniting after many years apart, solo artists are doing a small number of intimate concerts for lucky fans who manage to get tickets and chart topping artists are kicking off their careers.

We decided to look into what it costs fans to attend various different concerts that have either taken place this year or are still yet to take place, as well as looking at what the bands and artists themselves are estimated to make in ticket sales (for their entire tour).

What bands and artists touring in 2019 were included in the research?

Ariana Grande, Bon Jovi, Lewis Capaldi, Little Mix, Madonna, Metallica, Spice Girls, Take That and Westlife.

Who has the most fans per concert?

The Spice Girls had the most fans attend per concert, with an average of 72,768 fans attending each one. What might surprise you though, is that the “Queen of Pop”, Madonna, has the least fans per concert (2,286), however this is due to the 15 planned gigs being held at intimate venues as opposed to larger arenas.

Is it the same for which band/artist had the most fans attend their entire UK tour?

You might be surprised to hear that actually the order is different to the bands/artists who had the most fans per concert.

The Spice Girls, Metallica and Pink had the most fans (on average) per concert, however our research found that Spice Girls, Take That and Westlife had the largest fan-base attend their entire UK-wide tour respectively.

Did The Spice Girls have the most amount of tours?

No – actually the Spice Girls only carried out 11 UK concerts on The Spice World tour. However Take That managed an impressive 35, while Westlife and Little Mix both managed 32 each.

Metallica have the least amount of concerts planned on their UK tour (just 2), followed by Bon Jovi (3) and Pink (7).

Who earnt or will earn the most on their UK tour?

Madonna tops the list of having the most expensive concert tickets, but that’s to be expected when these gigs are in a more intimate setting, with just over 2,000 fans attending at a time. While it was tricky to find out how much her tickets went for, with it going through a ballot, they are selling online through ticketmaster for roughly £483.45. But by having such small concerts, she comes fourth from the bottom in terms of estimate revenue made from all ticket sales, with ticket sales estimated to make a whopping £16,577,501.

Spice Girls, Bon Jovi and Metallica all followed Madonna in having the most expensive tickets, with all of theirs ranging from £105.20 to £154 (on average)

When it came to who banked the most from ticket sales though, that was, of course, the Spice Girls (£123m). They were followed by Take That (£61m), Pink and Westlife (£38m respectively).

Lewis Capaldi, while currently rising through the ranks (only a few days ago John Legend and James Corden were singing his song on the Late Late Show), is still relatively new to the music industry. We’ve no doubt that in the coming years he’s going to be raking in the big bucks, following in the footsteps of Ed Sheeran, however for now his UK Arena tour is estimated to have raked in £3,814,370 – roughly just 3% of what the Spice Girls would have made in ticket sales for the Spice World UK tour.

The maths behind our research:

Tickets sold… venue concert capacities added together and multiplied by the number of shows per venue

Average amount of fans per concert… number of tickets sold divided by the number of shows

Average ticket price… the midway point between the standard tickets, least and most expensive (not including VIP tickets and packages)

Estimated revenue… tickets sold multiplied by the average ticket price
